Is there a solution to relax while being a mother?
Motherhood has its perks, that’s for sure. It can be such an enriching, rewarding and a satisfying experience. That said, being a mother can also be hectic, frustrating, stressful and even annoying. Just like everything else, it has its ups and downs.
There is usually so much that moms do and worry about. The kids, the spouse, finances, how to be a good parent… and after that, you are still expected to look great and sexy and be receptive to your spouse’s sexual advances. Sigh!
Well, if you find yourself feeling stressed on some days, be sure you are not alone. Whether you are a stay-at-home or office mom doesn’t really matter. Even the bouncy, always upbeat mother has her “days off” that beamy mood. Now the problem with having a bad day is that it tends we tend to take it out on the people we love… normally, it’s the husband and the kids who are usually on the receiving end of these emotions.
As moms, we sometimes need a breather to take the edge off. Otherwise, if we let this stress get the best of us, our families and our health are the ones that suffer the major blow. Below are a few tips that will serve as a solution to relax while being a mother.
Acknowledge that you are feeling stressed
People usually say how being a mother is the best thing that ever happened to them. What they don’t want to admit is how crappy it can feel sometimes. Much as you want to be the best you can be and the best that people around you expect you to be, when you are feeling stressed and irritable, admit that you are.
I have realized that when I tell my kids “Please be nice. Mommy is not in a good mood today”, they actually behave and choose to put a movie and watch as opposed to hitting one another with pillows.
Being irritable or frustrated doesn’t make you a bad mother. It makes you a real mother.
Learn to take a timeout and just breathe…
You might feel like you don’t have time to take a break… trust me, you do. It is important to create some “you time” during the day. Lock yourself in the bedroom, put some music on, get into the bathtub and just take deep, slow and relaxing breaths.
Let your kids and spouse know that you are taking a timeout and that they should all stay downstairs and respect it. Take time off so that you can be able to love them better…
Have that glass of wine
Some people find that a glass of wine at the end of a long day relaxing. If you are this kind of mom, then by all means… have it!
Connect with your spouse
Having a great relationship with your spouse is something that can really take the edge off. Talk about your day after the kids are down. Talk about what might have stressed you. You never know. He might have a solution for making things easier. Ask him for a massage before you sleep.
Have a glass of wine together on weekends and just talk, laugh and dream away. Unwinding together is a great way to chill out. And to top it up, have sex. It’s relaxing….
When you are done with the house chores and the kids are tucked away, go have a shower, get into bed and just sleep. Sleep as much as you can and whenever you can. Sneak in an hour more whenever you can. If your husband can assist you on weekends so that you can sleep in a bit, let him. Trust me, you will wake up a happier and more relaxed mom.
The first solution to relax while being a mother is to value motherhood, know that it’s important, and find those little things to make it more relaxing and enjoyable.
